Not every injury requires strength training

Yep, you heard that right! Let’s say it again for the people in the back: “Building strength does not improve all injuries”.

If it did, gym junkies wouldn’t be coming into the clinic and I am sure the Australian Government would mandate strength training across the country to cut down on healthcare costs. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple.

Strength is VERY important and I am not here to shut down gyms across Bendigo, but there are many other factors that feed into injury risk:

So, what else is important?

  • Mobility

  • Control

  • Endurance

  • Coordination

  • Balance/proprioception

  • Perceptions of pain

  • Postural control
